How to play the Singing Bowl.

Method I:

1.	The stick has to be placed between thumb, first finger and middle finger. The first finger and middle finger should remain parallel while holding the stick. The picture depicts the process of holding the stick.
2.	The bowl should be held in palm as shown in the picture.
	or
	The bowl should be placed on a pillow (exclusively provided for the purpose) / singing bowl stand. Hold the bowl in the palm, so that the body of the bowl is allowed to vibrate freely. Rub the bowl with the wooden stick on the outside rim in a circular motion, keeping an even pressure. Gently increase the speed as the bowl begins to vibrate, and as the sound grows. You can also tap the bowl to begin the vibration.
3.	The stick should be touched with the body of the bowl at an angle of 15 degree to 30 degree.
4.	Then the stick is rotated all around the bowl without loosing contact with the bowl.
5.	The more the stick is rotated around the bowl the sound would increase. The direction of rotation (clockwise/anticlockwise) does not matter. The pitch of the bowl depends its thickness, size and weight. The pitch is fixed but may be controlled as to tone and volume by the force of the tap, the hardness of the striking stick, and the point of percussion.

Method II:

1.	The bowl needs to be kept on palm or pillow.
2.	The bowl has to be hit with the stick in a particular fashion. The stick has to hit the body of the bowl and that too with not a lot of force.

How to make the Singing Bowl.

Singing bowl that has its origin in the remote past for its superb musical tone and usefulness is produced in seventeen well-known villages in different states of India. Ramjibanpur, situated in the district of Paschim Medinipur, in West Bengal has the name and fame for the production of singing bowl of high quality and fine musical tone for a few centuries. Now it will be discussed how singing bowl is made: Metal Logic Content The singing bowl is traditionally made of some metal alloys. The metals that are necessary to make singing bowl are gold, silver, copper, iron, lead, tin, and mercury. Though specific historical records of making the singing bowl are unavailable, the techniques followed by the workers for its making still exist. First, the metals are taken in the right proportion in a pot made of soil looking like a big jug with a circular open mouth. This pot is placed on a big oven creating heat as the coal burns. The metals are heated an, after a certain time, they all are melted. After melting, the alloy, when cooled, takes the form of a lump. This lump is again and again heated in the coal oven and hit with hammer. Twenty hammers of different shapes and sizes are used to hit the lump to make bowl. There is no doubt that it is an art production of patience and concentration. It takes a lot of time to form the bowl. However, the lump of metal takes the form of bowl by the hitting of 20 hammers. When the bowl is formed, it is finally finished and polished. In this connection, it is important to take note that if the hitting by the hammers is not done, as it should be, the tune of the singing bowl will not have a clear and musical tone. Thus all the workers do not have the expertise to make it. How ever, the workers having the requisite expertise hit the lump of the metal to make a bowl do it carefully, efficiently and with precision.
